To be honest, everyone I've spoken
to has a completely different experience of living in student accommodation,
even the people I live with. So this is really only my side of it. I live with
4 other people in a ground floor flat with ensuites and a shared kitchen/living
room bit.

Uni life - Studying journalism at the University of Lincoln
Last September I was thrown into the world of being a
journalism student at the University of Lincoln. And it really did feel like a
throw more than a light settling in. Naïvely, I expected that we would do a
load of lectures about how to interview and write news stories then later on in life we’d do the actual
journalism stuff. We had a few lectures but I didn't feel prepared at all. My first assignment was to write 5 news
stories, all with quotes, which meant we had to interview at least 5 people. I’m really not the most confident person so this terrified me. I’ve always
known that journalism is all about the talking to people bit but I assumed when
I got old enough I’d be more confident. But that didn't happen.

First Term of Uni
I've finished my first term of uni and handed in my last assignment today (yay) so I thought I'd do a little post about what I've been doing and stuff.
In September I left Nottingham and moved to Lincoln to study Journalism. On the way there I was crammed into the car with the whole contents of my room because I wasn't really sure what I should take with me. It was really scary on the way there but it didn't take me long to settle in at all. After a few days everyone was comfortable with each other and it all felt normal.
Lincoln is such a pretty city and it's small so no needing to get the bus anywhere ever! It also means it's really hard to get lost.
This term I got to try writing news stories, filming news stories and recording news stories for radio, and I've realised I'm really not good with technology and should definitely just stick to writing stuff. I'm also learning shorthand which is really hard and repetitive but I'm sure it'll be fine when I've learnt it all.
I didn't realise how stressful all the assignments would be until it got to a few weeks ago and I had about 6 in for the same week. The end of term consisted of lots of late night library trips and not much sleep. It feels so good to have nothing to do until the 19th of January, I can finally relax.

Month of photos - January
You may have noticed that there isn't nearly as many photos as last month. January is normally a really quiet month in general, with work and social life, especially compared to December which is full of festivities.
1. This photos sort of sums up this month for me. I've spent a lot of time recently eating food, watching films and doing coursework. I have two deadlines next week ah
2. I know today is technically February but I thought I'd squeeze this photo into the January post. Today I had an interview day at the University of Lincoln for the journalism degree. It was so much fun and I got to do a little radio workshop which was a new experience. I suppose a selfie of what I wore doesn't really explain the fact I had an interview today but excuse for a selfie woo.
3. Although I'm 18 I'm basically still a child so I bought the new Pokemon game last month for 3DS. It's a really good game, it's a lot different to the old ones as it's more 3D, which I prefer.
4. My boyfriend and two of his friends are making a short film about a man contemplating whether or he should propose to his girlfriend. It's quite a lighthearted, humorous, probably with little sad bits, kind of film. They need funding in order to make the film so if you could share (or possibly pledge?) to their Kickstarter they will be eternally grateful. If you pledge certain amounts you will be rewarded with things like posters, badges and a thank you in the credits, so please have a look!
I've also started using Instagram more recently since I discovered that I can download it on my iPad. I got a bit bored of Instagram before but I've followed more people, there's new filters and a cute little video option that you can apply filter too as well, so it's a bit more interesting than before.
I'll try to make February a bit more interesting and take more photos so I have more to talk about next month!
Lots of Love
Sophie
